MITCHELL -- Dr. Merle Mitchell, 84, former professor of mathematics at the University of New Mexico, died on February 28, 2006 of lymphoma at the home of her sister in Atlanta, GA. She served as Elder, Clerk of Session, Deaconess, and Bible study teacher at Immanuel Presbyterian Church for many years. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Hal Rives of Atlanta, GA; nieces and nephews, Drs. Cathy Rives and Lionel Corbett of Santa Barbara, CA, Jack and Eve Rives of Roswell, GA, and Dr. JoAnn Difede of New York City; as well as four great-nephews, Michael Rives, Jeffrey Rives, Gabriel Rives-Corbett, and Hal Difede Rives. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 3, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, with burial at Fairview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immanuel Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice. A reception will follow after the service at the church.
