ROSE -- William G. "Bill" Rose, 97, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, February 20, 2006. He is survived by his longtime companion, Arlene Wardlow of Albuquerque; his children, Dr. William George Rose and wife, Nance of Albuquerque, Dr. John W. Rose and wife, Patricia of Albuquerque, Caroline Daniel and husband, Dr. Terry Daniel of Tucson, AZ, and Charles G. Rose of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Michelle Marie Rose and husband, Kurt Hughes of Denver, CO, Dr. William Gregory Rose of Albuquerque, John Wesley Rose and wife, Elizabeth of Seattle, WA, Guy Dallas Rose and wife, Lisa of Albuquerque, Wendy Lea Mitchell and husband, Michael of Dallas, TX, Scott Daniel and wife, Kathy of Phoenix, AZ, Sean Daniel and wife, Marie of Austin, TX, Carrie Daniel of Atlanta, GA, Britton Rose of Albuquerque, and Molly Melbye of Seattle, WA; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marjorie Wellman of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma P. Rose; daughter, Barbara Melbye; son, David K. Rose; and brother, Milton Rose. Mr. Rose was a longtime Mason, 32nd Degree, lifetime York Rite, and Scottish Rite since 1970. He was also a lifetime member of Temple Lodge #6. Mr. Rose was the oldest member of the Ballut Abyad Shrine in the State of New Mexico at the time of his death, having joined in 1935. He also was a longtime member of the Shrine Chanters. He was graduate of Albuquerque High School and he went on to study civil engineering at both the University of New Mexico and New Mexico A&M (NM State). Mr. Rose studied engineering under the legendary professor of engineering "Dad Jett" at NM State. He worked as a civil engineer with the U.S. Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation, working on building the El Vado Dam, Ft. Sumner Dam, Conchas Dam, Abiquiu Dam, and Cochiti Dam in the State of New Mexico along with runways, rocket launching pads, and experimental sled runs at Holloman AFB. Mr. Rose also helped build the Hungry Horse Dam in Montana on the Flathead River near Glacier National Park, among other dams and projects around the country. He was an avid hunter and fly fisherman, a legacy he received from his father and passed on to his children. Graveside Services will be held Thursday, 3:30 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
