GERHARDT -- RICHARD C. Major Richard C. Gerhardt, USAF (Ret.), 76, a resident of Albuquerque for over 30 years, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2005, surrounded by his loving family. Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley; and son, Douglas S. Gerhardt of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard J. Gerhardt. Richard graduated from Aviation Cadets as a pilot in 1952. In 1959, he graduated with a Professional Degree in Metallurgy from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO. He received his Masters Degree in Metallurgy in 1962 from Denver University. Captain Gerhardt worked at the Weapons Lab Kirtland Air Force Base, NM doing research on early Nevada Atomic Testing. He was a math instructor at the Air Force Academy for three years, then was stationed in Arlington, VA, serving at the Defense Intelligence Agency. He later retuned to Albuquerque where he retired from Kirtland Air Force Base in 1976. After he retired, he began a second career as an engineer for Boeing both in Seattle, WA and Wichita, KS. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Services will be held Friday, January 6, 2006, 11:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
