HEAD -- Constance Head, 78, died November 30, 2005 from cancer. Connie was born Mary Constance North in 1927 in Glen Ridge, NJ. She attended Western College in Miami, OH, and received her Bachelor's in English from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. While in Madison she met and married James M. Head, a medical student. She also joined the Alpha Phi Sorority, a group that provided life-long joy and camaraderie. She and James were married for 19 years until his death in Chicago, IL in 1969. In 1970 she left the cold, grey lakes of the Midwest for the sunny mesas and mountains of New Mexico, the home of her heart and spirit. She settled in Albuquerque, raising her sons and daughter in the shelter of the Sandia Mountains. She worked at the UNM Student Union and the old Plaza Hotel before becoming office manager for the Albuquerque YWCA. She retired in the early 1990s. She loved to sing and was a member of the O.A.S.I.S. singing group. She believed in the power of women to change the world; she volunteered many years for Meals-on-Wheels and other charities. An avid football fan, she attended several triumphant and countless heartbreaking Lobo football games. We will all miss her hearty football cheers, her smile and sharp wit. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Milne Head; her best friends and dear sisters, Patricia and Genevieve; and son, James Milne Head, Jr., STGCM, USN. She is survived by her brother, Edward North of Haddonfield, NJ and his wife, Sally; by her son, Marcus N. Head who lives in Norwich, VT with his wife, Dana, and their children, Jeffrey, Kelsey and Lindsey; by her son, Rollin R. Head, who lives in Albuquerque; by her daughter, Genevieve N. Head, who lives in Santa Fe with her husband, Courtney White and their children, twins Olivia and Sterling White; and by numerous nieces, nephews, sorority sisters, and dear friends. We will celebrate Connie's life, strength, and humor on December 10, 2005 at 12:30 p.m. at Sunrise Funeral Options, 7601 Wyoming Blvd, NE. At Connie's request her ashes will be interred at a later date on The Red Canyon Ranch, a working ranch and retreat at the base of the San Mateo Mountains, south of Socorro. The Red Canyon Ranch is operated by The Quivira Coalition, a non-profit organization based in Santa Fe and co-founded by her son-in-law. Donations in Connie's memory may be made to Rachel's Courtyard Children's Cancer Center at Presbyterian Hospital through the Alpha Phi Alumnae Chapter of Albuquerque (make checks payable to "Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation" accompanied by a note for Rachel's Courtyard through the Alpha Phi, and send to Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation, P.
