BRITTAIN -- Rev George L. Brittain, a longtime resident of Grants, NM and beloved Pastor, who served several churches around New Mexico, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2005. For the past year, he had been a resident of the Grants Good Samaritan Center, where he was cared for by a loving staff. Rev. Brittain was retired from Central Baptist Church and Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church of Grants. Brother George became pastor of The First Baptist Church of Grants in 1954. Bro. George was orphaned by age five, then lived with his grandfather in Childress, Texas until age 12. For most of his teenage years George "hoboed" around the United States riding freight trains and visiting 39 states by age 17. George married the Love of His life, Flois E. Cogdill, October 1, 1938, at Childress, Texas. He served in the US Army during World War II and following his discharge, he, Flois and their two boys moved to Albuquerque where he worked until his call to the ministry in 1948. George is survived by his wife of 67 years, Flois; two sons, Larry and wife, Barbara Brittain of Artesia, Bob and wife, Judy Brittain of Thoreau; grandchildren, Lora Brittain of Kansas, Mike Brittain of Edgewood, Rick Brittain of Tennessee, David Brittain of Rio Rancho, and step- grandchildren, Toby Brittain of California and Angie Gregory of Rio Rancho. There are also 19 great- grandchildren who love their "Papa" very much. Rev. Brittain was preceded in death by his grandson, Jody Brittain. Services to celebrate the life of Bro. George Brittain will be Thursday, October 13, 2005. There will be a time of viewing and visitation at Central Baptist Church, 701 Sage Ave, Grants, NM, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Memorial service will be at the First Baptist Church, 224 Mountain Road, Grants, NM at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Grants Memorial Park. Officiating the services will be Dr. David Brittain, Rev. Lonnie Jordan, Rev. Hugh Rogers, and Rev. Milford Misener. Bro.
