HAURY -- Lonah Margaret Haury was called home to her heavenly father, Thursday, August 11, 2005. Lonah was happiest when surrounded by her loving family and was with them throughout her long illness and during her final days. She was born on August 23, 1930 in Albuquerque to Rev. George Wilson and Maggie Howard Wilson. A graduate of Albuquerque High School, Lonah attended Wayland Baptist College and Bacone College. While at Bacone, she met and married Kenneth Haury, her husband of 55 years. A born educator, she taught Sunday school from a young age up to her passing. Lonah began her career working at the Albuquerque Indian School where she fostered many lasting relationships with young people. She held several positions with the Albuquerque Public Schools and retired in 1996 after 25 years of service. Lonah believed in following her faith among other Native Americans in the Albuquerque community and was a member of the Albuquerque Indian Baptist Mission. Of all her many gifts--- musician, mother, and educator---her ability to teach and shape small children was perhaps her most outstanding accomplishment. A gifted musician who sang with many church choirs, she played the piano and brought music to children of all ages. She was proud of her Native American heritage and was known for her beautiful shawls and jewelry. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her step-mother, Geneva Wilson Hoban and brother, George Wilson, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Haury; daughter Margery Buckner and husband, Jerry; sons, Richard Haury and wife, Margarita, Ron Haury and Kathy Thompson, Mark Haury and George Haury and wife, Marian, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Winona and Jennifer Buckner, Amy and Courtney Haury, Ricky and Stephanie Haury and David Thompson; sisters, Winona Wilson of Minneapolis, MN and Margery Walker of San Saba, TX; brother, Richard Wilson and wife, Jane of Denver, CO; special cousins, Maxine Zotigh and Ramona Cross of Albuquerque; numerous nephews, nieces and other family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris, NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support, especially the staffs of the Albuquerque Kidney Center and Kindred Hospital.
