TARBOX -- David S. Tarbox, age 84, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 9, 1920 in Findlay, OH, and raised in Akron, OH. David was class president of East High's class of 1938, and he graduated from Akron University in 1942 with a degree in Civil Engineering. An avid patriot, David enlisted in the Military in 1944. He was a 2ND Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served in the 7th Armored Division in the conflict of the Battle of the Bulge in Germany. He was wounded in action while leading a patrol charged with the hazardous mission of removing demolition charges from a bridge over the Eder River at Mehlen, Germany, earning both a Silver Star and a Purple Heart for his bravery. David, known to family and friends as T-Box, moved to Albuquerque in 1947 where he met and married Ethel Mae Clancey in 1948. He began his career at Sandia National Laboratories as a Civil Engineer, and designed several buildings at Sandia Base and China Lake Naval Station at Salton Sea, CA. After holding several positions at Sandia, T-Box retired as Director of Safety, Security and Industrial Relations in 1983 in order to care for and travel with his wife Clancey before her death in 1993. Once very active in the community, he was a founding member and past President of the Board of Directors of Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union. He also served as President on the Board of Directors of All Faith's Receiving Home, and was an Advisor to the Selective Service System on the NM State Scientific Advisory Committee. He was also active in Kiwanis and other civic organizations. T-Box was a man of his own making and was admired and respected for his integrity and work ethic. He was a gourmet chef, master craftsman, handy man and "jack of all trades." There was nothing he could not do, and "work" was his passion. He particularly enjoyed his hobby of stained glass, and most recently completed treasures for each of his children and grandchildren, despite his failing health. T-Box was most happy traveling, or doing things for others. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to his children and friends, no matter what was needed. His passing will leave a giant void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. T-Box was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Clancey; daughter, Tracey; parents, Fred G. and Florence A.
