SCHIFFER -- Tom Richman Schiffer, age 71, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2005 at Mayo's St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN in the presence of his family and dear friend Brian Moore, MD. Beloved husband of Anne, cherished father of Bethanne Schiffer of Albuquerque, and Susan Schiffer Yates and her husband, David of Lexington, MA; doting grandfather to Lauren Elizabeth and Caroline Michelle Yates; devoted brother to Myron Schiffer of Lenox, MA. Tom was born in Cincinnati, OH and graduated from Miami University, Oxford, OH in 1955 with a degree in business administration. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Long involved in retailing, he worked for Federated Department stores in Cincinnati until he was promoted to regional manager of Fedway stores in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. It was this job that brought Tom and his family to Albuquerque in 1969. In 1973, he began a highly successful career in real estate. He earned the professional designations: CRS, CRB, and GRI and was a member of the real estate honorary, Omega Tau Rho. He served as president of the Albuquerque Board of Realtors (1995-1996), and was recognized by the Board as both Salesman of the Year (1979) and Realtor of the Year (1982). Tom was very influential in New Mexico and made significant contributions as a businessman, and a citizen. He was very generous with his time, contributing to many professional and cultural organizations. He was a great friend to many and will be long remembered for his devotion and love of family, his enthusiastic love of life, his integrity, and his "NEVER BETTER" attitude. Private Services were conducted by Father Doug Sparks of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Rochester, MN. Arrangements to be announced at a later time.
