HARPER -- Bill J. Harper, 73, a resident of Albuquerque since 1954, passed away on July 27, 2005. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanne Harper; daughter, Chris Hoover and husband, Greg of Tempe, AZ; son, Perry Harper of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Riley and Jessica Harper of Denver, CO and Joseph, Molly, and Grace Hoover. He is also survived by brothers, Gene Harper and wife, Margaret and Lynn Harper and wife, Martha. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Harper was born near Albany, TX and spent his early childhood in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. He graduated from Lovington High School where he played football and was president and salutatorian of his senior class. After one year at UNM he enlisted in the Air Force and served four years during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he returned to UNM, graduating with both a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering and completing additional graduate work. He worked for Sparton Technology for 28 years before retiring in 1991. His favorite hobbies were gardening, watching the Dallas Cowboys, walking at Winrock Mall, reading, and rock collecting. Mr. Harper was a long time member of LaMesa Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder on the Session and the Board of Deacons. Bill will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at LaMesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper NE, with Rev. Trey Hammond officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
