YOUNG -- George Estle Young, Jr., age 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, passed July 7, 2005 in his wife's arms. He was born August 22, 1921 in Honey Grove, TX. He worked for the telephone company in San Angelo, TX from 1938 - 1959. He joined the Navy and was a proud member of the 31st Seabee Battalion. He served on Iwo Jima with the 5th Marine Division until his battalion was transferred to Nagasaki, Japan in 1945 to participate with the clean-up of the aftermath of the bomb. He was Golden Gloves Champion for the State of Texas; Golden Gloves Champion for the New England States while in the Navy representing the 31st Seabees "Can Do." Mr. Young moved his family to Monte Vista, CO from 1959 - 1964 before moving to Albuquerque and owning a business. He retired from the Bernalillo Co. Sheriff's Dept. in 1985. Mr. Young loved to fish and hunt; he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Agnes, his favorite fishing and hunting partner; his daughter, Sondra and husband Jim Britt; his grandchildren, James Britt, II and Jennifer Britt-Escalante; great-granddaughter, Daniela Escalante; his sisters, Louise and husband Ernest Burton and Elaine Nickerson and Clyde "Buzz" Babcock; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be Monday, July 11, 2005, 2:00 p.m. at Sandia Memory Gardens, 9500 San Pedro Dr. NE with Dr. Jerry L. Burton officiating, assisted by Ernest Burton. Pallbearers will be Dana Gilmer, Larry Burton, James Britt, Eric Escalante, Stuart Erne and Jarrod Gilmer.
