BORKERT -- John Joseph Borkert went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 5, 2005. He was born in Birmingham, AL Saturday, August 14, 1926. He spent his youth in Hobart, IN. After serving in WWII, he moved west to attend New Mexico School of Mines, graduating with a degree in Mining Engineering in 1951. On January 28, 1949, he married Nancy Snelling, his wife of 56 years. John was always so proud of their five sons and their wives: Charles and Penny of Adkins, TX, Steven of Questa, NM, Jay and Debbie of Colorado Springs, CO, Cary and Yvette of Portsmouth, VA and Daniel and Marne of Denver, CO. John loved his 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. John's career as a mining engineer in the uranium industry took him throughout the Southwest. He was a certified professional engineer for the states of Colorado and Oregon. He pioneered and introduced early development procedures of uranium in situ leaching about which he authored publications and obtained several patents. His career culminated as Vice President, Exploration (USA) of Occidental Mineral Corp. John was a life-long member of the Christian Church and a member of DAV. Besides his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, John is survived by a sister, Eleanora Courtright, of Hobart, IN. John's exuberant, outgoing love will be missed by both his family and friends. A Memorial Service celebrating John's life will be held Saturday, July 9, 2005, 10:30 a.m., at First Christian Church, 10101 Montgomery Blvd. NE.
