PENA -- Elvira Garcia Pena - Age 100, a resident of La Madera has been called by our Heavenly Father to her eternal resting place on Thursday, June 2, 2005. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Juan Antonio Pena and most recent by her brother, Fabian Garcia. She was born in May of 1905 and recently celebrated her 100th birthday while being honored with numerous proclamations by state, local and religious dignitaries. She was a former educator, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by children, Orlando Pena and wife Rose of Utah, Fabian Pena and wife Sharon of Albuquerque, David Pena and wife Lucy of California, Peter Pena and wife Marcella of Santa Fe, and Floyd Pena and wife Elizabeth of Cuba, Ida Chavez of Albuquerque and Dulcie Tafoya and husband Tony of Albuquerque; brother, Dennis Garcia and wife Eliza of El Rito; sister, Molly Contreras and husband Casey of Santa Fe; one sister-in-law, Jane Garcia of El Rito; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many other nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 6, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito. Burial to follow at the family cemetery in El Rito with the following serving as pallbearers, David, Peter, Marcus, Floyd, and Marvin Pena, John Tafoya, Anthony and Carl Chavez. Honorary pallbearers are, David Gallegos, Renee Hon and Debra Pohl. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Sacred Heart Society of La Madera.
