CRABTREE -- Phyllis R. Crabtree, age 85, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away Monday, May 2, 2005. Born and raised in Torrington CT, she was trained as a registered nurse at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and served in World War II as a lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps where she met and married Colby W. Crabtree from Abbott Village, ME. After the war, Phyllis and Colby resided in Torrington and Guilford, ME before relocating to Hollywood, FL. Phyllis worked as an office nurse for several orthopedic surgeons and was active in the Moose Club, American Legion and VFW. After Colby's death in 1995, Phyllis retired to Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years; her parents, Frank and Elizabeth (nee Brown) Conforti; and brothers, Victor and Clement Conforti. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra K. Hanneman, Linda C. Bono, and Susan C. Peyerl; sister, Kathleen Frate; three grandchildren, Jennifer Peyerl, Freddie Peyerl, and Joel Colby Hanneman; one great-granddaughter; and dozens of nieces and nephews. She worked as a nurse until the age of 75 and then volunteered as a tutor for educationally disadvantaged youth and adults, hospital auxiliary member and blood pressure screener at senior centers. She received many honors and awards for her volunteer work. Phyllis loved bridge and golf. Phyllis will be missed by her family and many friends around the country. She will be remembered by many as a person who made the world a better place in so many ways. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2005 at St. Chad Episcopal Church, 7171 Tennyson Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Phyllis Crabtree to the Women's Memorial Foundation, Dept. 560, Washington, DC 20042-0560.
