SUAZO -- Venceslao "Lalo" Suazo, 70, a life-long New Mexico resident, died Monday, March 28, 2005 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; one daughter, Venesa Carter and her husband, Chris of Rogersville, MO; sisters, Rose Sandoval and Ernest of Albuquerque and Rebecca Serna of Hernandez, NM; sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Geri Suazo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. Lalo was preceded in death by his parents, Venceslao, Sr. and Aleja Suazo; brothers, Jose and Abel Suazo; and brother-in-law, Ben Serna who died the very same day as Lalo. He was born on October 23, 1934 in Ignacio, CO and moved to New Mexico as a child. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict as a film developer for reconnaissance flights. Upon his discharge from the service, Lalo went to work in Los Alamos. He worked for the Zia Company and Los Alamos County. Lalo retired from Los Alamos County in 1992. He was very involved in his daughter's activities surrounding her Arabian horses and the various horseshows she entered. He loved his horses. Lalo was a very avid trout fisherman in the Northern New Mexico Mountains. Lalo was very close to and involved with his entire family. He was a loving husband, devoted father and a friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Rosary will be held Sunday, April 3, 2005, 6:00 pm at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE with Deacon Byron Wicker reciting. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, April 4, 2005, 9:00 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE. Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery, at 1:30 p.m. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Society, 7001 Menaul Blvd. NE, Suite 1A, 87110 or to the American Diabetes Assoc. of NM, 2625 Pennsylvania NE, Suite 225, 87110.
