JOHNSTON -- Frederick Allen "Rick" Johnston, born May 18, 1945, died in a car accident March 22, 2005. Rick is survived by his mother Martha (West) (Johnston) Acree; brothers, Clifford and James; sisters, Joy Romero and Cynthia Torres; son, Brian; and daughter, Ericka Taylor; and companion, Valarie McKinsey. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin and brother, Kenneth. A Memorial Service was held March 26, 2005 in Bothell, WA. Rick was a graduate of Valley High School in Albuquerque and of the University of Montana where he was a starting guard for the Grizzlies basketball team. Rick was a long time marathon runner and as a race organizer spent five years as Executive Director of the Seattle Marathon Association. For the last several years he worked with his son, Brian in a family owned business, Sound Sand & Finish, a hardwood flooring company.
