GROSSETETE -- Nugget Fred Grossetete Sr., 92, born in the Territory of New Mexico at Reserve, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005 in Albuquerque. His parents were Maud Shimmins and "Gus" Augustus Grossetete. When Nugget was 2 years old, the family moved to Ribera, NM, where his mother was Postmistress and ran a General Store. His father had a blacksmith shop to repair and build wagon wheels and also worked for the railroad. The Grossetete's moved to Albuquerque and started Ever Ready Oil Company in a station at the corner of Harvard and Central. The company grew to one of the largest petroleum distributors in the Southwest. The company was sold in 1998. Nugget married Marie Wagoner on June 7, 1936. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before Marie passed away. Nugget served as President and District Governor of Optimist International. He was active in the Shrine Patrol and the Air Patrol. Nugget and Marie flew their Cessna all over and traveled extensively. Nugget is survived by Nugget Fred Grossetete Jr., Kelly Grossetete, Sean and Senesa Grossetete, Sarianna Grossetete, Patricia and Jim Phelps, Kathrine Moore, Christofer Moore, Jonell and Jim Shepherd, Martha Shepherd, Lora and Kelly Davis, Kalvin and Konnor Davis, and Bart Shepherd. He was the oldest of five children and was preceded in death by his brother, Aleck Grossetete; and his sisters, Eloise Constant, Ethel Costanzo and Eleanor Patton. Memorial services will be held Monday, March 28, 2005, at 3:00 p.m., at the Shrine Center, 6600 Zuni SE.
