CHAVEZ -- Gabriel G. Chavez Sr. went home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2005 at the age of 69. Gabriel Chavez was born March 9, 1935 to Salvador and Senaida Chavez in Torreon, NM. He graduated from Estancia High School, and in the late 1950s he served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corp. He married his wife Isabel Gonzales and started his family and career as a locksmith in Albuquerque, NM. He worked at Vigil's Lock and Key shop in the early 60s and then 30 years of service for the Albuquerque Public Schools. He retired in 1995 and enjoyed his grandchildren, family, and friends. He enjoyed ranching which was a family business. He loved the University of NM basketball and football teams and also enjoyed relaxing at the casinos. He is survived by his children, Gabriel D. Chavez, Loretta I. Kramer and husband, Eddie of Seattle, WA, and Linda L. Chavez and partner, Ada Lee of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren, Lindsey M. Kramer, Noah A. Kramer, Lucas A. Kramer of Seattle, WA, and Xavier Lee-Chavez of Rio Rancho, NM; surviving siblings, Rafaelita Vigil of Torreon, NM and Juan Chavez of Monzano, NM; and beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins. Visitations will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. also at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
