KIRST -- Gordon W. Kirst, 82, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Thursday, February 24, 2005. Gordon was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI where he worked for Nabisco, and was later transferred to Albuquerque in 1951. He continued his employment for 40 years with Nabisco, when he retired in 1983. Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Julianne (Julie) Kirst of Albuquerque; daughter, Barbara Stephenson and husband, Mack of Socorro; sister, Lorraine Essmann of Milwaukee; and brother, Edward Kirst of New Olmstead, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Marie Kirst; and one son, Jon Alvin Kirst. Gordon was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for many years. He served in the Korean War as well as World War II, where he later became a member of the American Legion Post 49. He also volunteered at the St. Joseph's Hospital Rehab Center for 7 years. He was a member of the Toy Train Operating Society, where he enjoyed social activities with other members. Services will be held on Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 Gold SE, with Pastor Randy Walquist. A reception to follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church after the service. Interment will take place Wednesday, March 2, 2:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM, members and friends are welcome to attend the ceremony. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church and or the school.
