MARTINEZ -- Andres E. Martinez (Casey/Andy), 76, of Santa Fe, died peacefully Saturday, January 22, 2005 at his home, after a long bout with congestive heart failure. Andy was born in La Madera to Zenaida Garcia Martinez and Jose Cleofas Martinez. He graduated from the Northern New Mexico Normal School in El Rito where he was a sports standout, academic ace, and student leader. He honorably served his country in the Korean Conflict and earned a B.S. from UNM as part of the G.I. Bill. His work as a civil engineer took him and his family across northern New Mexico to Chile to Southern California to Ecuador to Saudi Arabia and back to New Mexico, where he retired from the State Highway Department in the early 1990s. He was especially proud of his work as project engineer on the construction of the Taos Gorge Bridge. In his final days, Andy's grandchildren, Christopher and Piper, brought smiles to his face. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Delio, Horacio, Cleofas, Fernando, and Arturo; and his sisters, Gloria and Fern. He is survived by his sisters, Henrietta Castillo of Northern California, Cora Salazar of Rio Rancho, and Nora Salazar (Gilbert) of San Juan and their families. Additionally, Andy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marianne Lowdermilk Martinez; his daughters, and their families: Andra Martinez of Albuquerque, Jennifer Martinez (Bill McArthur and Christopher) of Santa Fe; Robin Martinez-Hall (Ron Hall and Alexandra and Ashley) of southern California and Marcela Chenoweth (Brian Chenoweth and Piper) of Utah; his special friend, Mike McArthur; and many other nieces and nephews. Many special thanks to the home health aides, nurses, and staffs at Heritage Home Health Care, Odyssey Hospice; and to the dear friends and relatives who made visits to Andy and his family. Linda D., Linda F., Nora, and Robin were his special angels. A Memorial Mass will be held at San Isidro Church, in Santa Fe, on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be private. The family suggests that memorial donations in lieu of flowers be made to the American Heart Association at www.americanheart-donate.org.
