ENRIGHT -- Twyla Enright RN was born on November 26, 1916 in Baxter Springs, KS. As a child, she lived in Sioux Falls, SD with her adopted Norwegian family members. A single mother raised her and her sister on a farm, during the depression. Later she attended Baxter Springs Kansas High School where she excelled academically, played on the girls' basketball team and was a cheerleader during half time. In 1938 she graduated nurse's training in Kansas City, MO under the Sisters of Charity. She married Earl Enright of Joplin, MO and they, after WWII, with their three young children moved to San Juan, NM where Ms. Enright provided volunteer healthcare for residents of rural Northern New Mexico. It is said that she provided home healthcare for Georgia O'Keeffe. Twyla and her family moved to Albuquerque where Ms. Enright nursed at the old St. Joseph Hospital and then the Veterans Hospital Operating Room where she participated in the first open heart surgical procedure in New Mexico. After twenty-five years in the OR, she retired to her beloved Albuquerque home of many years, where she continued to volunteer healthcare services. Ms. Enright also loved music and, as a child, taught herself to play the piano and the violin. She was a time-honored supporter of the Arts in New Mexico. She also loved worldwide travel wherein she traveled to China, South American, Europe, Middle East, and Canada. She and her husband loved the mountains of New Mexico where they built their own cabin, in the wilderness, at the foot of the Brazos Cliffs in Tierra Amarilla, NM. As a child, Ms. Enright made clothes for she and her sister from recycled flour bags. She subsequently became an accomplished seamstress and dress designer. During her last years, she participated in Home Healthcare Reform under the auspices of her time honored home healthcare provider, Ms. Katherine Mann. Her husband, Earl, and sister Eula Marie, preceded Ms. Enright in death. Three children survive Ms. Enright: Nancy Reynolds of Dallas, TX, Patrick Enright of Santa Ana, CA and Michael Enright of Albuquerque, NM. Mrs. Enright enjoyed seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews. She would also wish to acknowledge the services of longtime friend and neighbor, Kathy Esquerra.
