SPICER -- Jeanne H. Spicer, 80, a resident of Albuquerque, died on November 12, 2004. Mrs. Spicer was born in Leavenworth, KS on July 18, 1924 to Louis L. and Ethel Smith Heim. She attended school in that community and was graduated from Leavenworth High School in May 1942. That same year, she began a career of over 40 years of continuous service with the Federal Government as a secretary at Ft. Leavenworth. Mrs. Spicer married Gordon O. Spicer on December 19, 1948 at the Ecumenical Chapel at Wadsworth, KS. Her husband preceded her in death on February 11, 2002. He had retired from the United States Air Force as a Lt. Colonel after service in World War II and in the Korean and Viet Nam conflicts. After beginning service at Ft. Leavenworth, Mrs. Spicer worked for a variety of Federal agencies overseas and in the continental United States, including the Atomic Energy Commission, the Army and the United States Air Force in both secretarial and administrative positions. When she retired from Federal service in 1982, she served as a position classifier in personnel at Kirtland AFB. Mrs. Spicer was an active worshiper at the Base Protestant Chapel at Kirtland, a member of the Four Hills Association, and a member of the Albuquerque Humane Society. Her interests included family, travel, gardening, bridge, birdwatching, and conservation and wildlife programs. She is survived by an aunt, Bobbie Hallaux, of Lee's Summit, MO; a brother, Ted Heim and his wife, Anne of Topeka, KS; a brother-in-law, Bob Spicer and his wife, Nancy, of Parkridge, IL; a niece and nephew, Gene and John Finnell of Parkville, MO; and two nieces, Jenny Heim of St. Louis, MO, and Suzy Heim of Olathe, KS. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 18, at Chapel of Sunrise, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment of cremated remains will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. A reception will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the family home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, 615 Virginia SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 or to Presbyterian Hospice, 8100 Constitution NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
