JOYNER -- Guilford Moses Joyner, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, E. Arneta Joyner of Albuquerque; daughters, Karen M. Hansen of Lansing, MI, Michele Joyner of High Rolls, NM, and Caroline Lucero of Albuquerque; son, David G. Joyner and wife, Annette of La Luz, NM; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Elizabeth Thornell and husband, Wilton; and several nieces and nephews. Bill is preceded in death by his brother, William D. Joyner and his wife, Mary. He was born in North Carolina on Thursday, June 28, 1923 to William D. and Della Joyner. He served in the Army during World War II as a paratrooper, Company D of the 511th Parachute Infantry. Bill graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Masters Degree in Education. He was captain of the track team and broke the collegiate high jump record in Florida. Bill was an educator and coach at William & Mary, New Mexico State and Dartmouth, where he was United States Athletic Trainer of the year and was a retired teacher from Albuquerque Public Schools. Services will be held on Thursday, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel with Rev. Ned Ross and Fr. Bob Keller officiating. Interment services will be held Friday, 9:30 a.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gordon Faulkner, David Crockett, Dupy Bateman, and Joe Candelaria. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel on Wednesday, 5:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
