ADAMS -- Alton G. Adams, 1918-2004, was born in Golden City, MO. After graduating from Webb City High School in 1936, he enlisted in the Naval Reserve and was a veteran of WWII during which time he was assigned to the Army OSS. He was honorably discharged and graduated from George Washington University with a degree in Political Science. He subsequently completed speciality training in African affairs at Oxford, England. Thereafter he and his wife, Laurel began a long career in the foreign service--Department of State and the United States Agency for International Development. During his years with the foreign service he and his family lived in Ethiopia, Paraguay, Sudan, Liberia, Somalia, Ecuador, Sierra Leone, and Kenya and traveled extensively in Europe. After his retirement from the State Department, he worked as a international contractor/negotiator with AID, traveling in Africa, the Phillipines and Panama. He is survived by Laurel Adams (married 1941-1988); four daughters: Elizabeth and her husband, Michael Judd, Marte, Cynthia and her husband, James Lewis, and Paula and her husband, Ross Consaul; five grandchildren: Jennie and her husband, Darrell Chaloupkas, Kathryn Lewis, James Lewis and his wife, Jennifer, Emily and Rose Consaul; and five great-grandchildren: Garrett, Brent, and Samantha Chaloupkas and Hadyn and Harrison Lewis. Funeral services were conducted at the Memorial Park Funeral Home and interment with military honors at Memorial Park Cemetery in St Petersburg, Florida on September 21, 2004.
