JELSO -- Clara Barbara Jelso, nee Petersen, born May 5, 1928 in Tacoma, WA, died suddenly and unexpectedly August 23, 2004. She was 76. Clare had relocated to Tacoma in 2003 after spending most of her adult life in Albuquerque, and was on a cruise in the Artic Circle at the time of her death. An avid traveler, Clare explored most of the world's continents and visited many countries including China, India, Kenya, and Russia. While in Albuquerque, Clare, always the athlete, won gold in the Senior Olympics, competed in volleyball, and was a passionate bowler. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Hansina Petersen; one brother, Elias; her son Thomas; and Dr. Samuel Jelso, her former husband and the father of her children. She is survived by her children, Toni, Dominic, Sandra, and Stephen (wife Eunme); and one grandchild, Courtney (husband Brian). She is also survived by one sister, Elna Strom; and two brothers, Carsten (wife Viola) Petersen, and Peter Petersen, all of Tacoma. As she wished, her ashes were consigned to the sea near the small Norwegian village where her parents were born.
