BARKALOW -- James E. Barkalow, 79, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1993 after moving to New Mexico from Dayton, OH, passed away from this earthly existence on September 3, 2004, and now sits in our Lord's house. Jim was born on Dec 19, 1924, in Dayton, OH. One son, Tim, precedes him in death. His wife of 56 years, Rosemary, and their 8 children - Sue, Larry, Nancy, Terry, Cheryl, Jim, Sandra, Dan; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren, survive him. The family wishes everyone to know that James fought the good fight and served his family and country with love, honor, and respect. James served his country in WWII, fighting in the European theater, serving in the 3rd Army, 90th Division, under Patton. James is an ex-POW - he and several of his buddies were captured during the war by the Germans and later managed to escape during a firewood foraging excursion. James fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest. James leaves behind a deep and rich legacy to his family and friends, full of wisdom, love, and laughter. We honor his passing with celebration, as he is now in our Lord's home, and we look forward to the day when we can join him. A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Friday September 10 at 10:30 a.m. The family will gather for a private ceremony in Ohio where his ashes will be interned at a later date.
