MESTAS -- Jose "Lupe" Mestas, 88, died on Tuesday, July 6, 2004. He is survived by his children, Frank J. Mestas and wife, Lucille of Albuquerque, NM, Helen Butsch and husband, Eddie of Powell, TN, Freda Marquez and husband, Archie of Albuquerque, NM, Tina Tafoya of Rio Rancho, NM and Jose A. Maestas and companion, Kathy of Cedar Crest, NM; twenty one grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ramona Trujillo and husband, Sam of Pueblo, CO and Josephine Montoya of Albuquerque, NM. Jose was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Mestas in 1969 and then companion, Sally Nieto. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Jose worked as a farmer for over 20 years before moving to Albuquerque; he then worked in construction and for the NM State Highway Department. A rosary will be recited Thursday, July 8, 2004 at 7:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 9, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper NW. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Thomas Mestas, Little Joe Maestas, Alfred Tafoya, Archie Ray Marquez, Frank Zamora and Tory DeMello. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel on Thursday, July 8, 2004, 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
