GONZALES -- Mela T. Gonzales, age 84, a lifelong resident of Los Lentes, NM has gone to be with our Lord on Tuesday, June 29, 2004. She had her loving family at her side. She was a lifelong member of San Clemente Catholic Church and she took great pride in never missing Sunday Mass. She was a foster grandparent for 13 years retiring in 1999. Mela "Nana" was a big hearted woman. She would wait every week for Sunday to come so that she could see her family that would come to eat breakfast. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Mela was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alex Gonzales; her parents, Edwardo and Lorenza Tafoya; her daughter-in-law, Geraldine Gonzales; and four brothers, Cecilio, Paul, John, and Freddie Tafoya. She is survived by her six loving children, Lorrie and her husband, John Maurer, Frank and his wife, Maria Gonzales of Los Lunas, Pauline and her husband, Eddie Peralta of Los Chavez, Eddie and his wife, Rosie Gonzales of Los Lunas, Mabel and her husband, Steve Connelly of Phoenix, AZ, and Joe and his wife, Jeannie Gonzales of Los Lunas; 24 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. All services will be held at San Clemente Catholic Church beginning with a viewing on Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. to be followed with a rosary at 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday July 2, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the San Clemente Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jon-Michael Perea, Sonny Frank Gonzales, Eli Gonzales, Phillip and Chris Peralta, Joseph Gonzales, and Nicole and Manuel Perea. Honorary pallbearers will be all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Romero Funeral Home 609 N. Main St., Belen, NM.
