MATHIS -- Lorene Fay Mathis, age 98, a resident of Belen, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and best friend in the world passed away on May 25, 2004. Lorene was born on December 26, 1905 to Thomas and Mattie Sims. She belonged to the Pythian Sisters for over 60 years. Lorene was one of the founders of the Loyal Neighbor Sewing Club and a member of Women of the Moose La Merced Chapter. Lorene and her husband, Henry moved to Belen in December 1922 as newlyweds. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Mathis; parents Thomas and Mattie Sims and her son, Oscar Lee Mathis. Lorene is survived by her twin daughters, JoAnn Miske and Betty Jo Allen; 7 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. All services will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 beginning with a viewing at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Cremation will then take place. Romero Funeral Home 609 N. Main St. Belen.
