WIEGE -- Mary Elizabeth Mothersill Wiege was born May 24, 1915 in Mill Valley, California and raised in St.Paul, Minnesota. She died May 21, 2004 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Mary was the daughter of Roland and Mabel Mothersill. She was preceded in death by her son, Tom. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Eugene Wiege; brother, Howard Mothersill; daughters, Christine Di Gregorio and husband, Joe and Margaret Shouse and husband, Clay; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mary was known for beign well-mannered and proper, yet she was also independent-minded, strong-willed and downright spunky. As a young lady, Mary excelled at ice hockey, doing the Charleston and headstands. Ahead of her time, she earned a degree in chemistry from Carleton College and thought about becoming a medical doctor. She ended up marrying one instead when she met Gene while working at the University of Chicago. She commuted to work by roller skates for safety on the south side of Chicago. The strength of Mary's will was matched only by the strength of her love for her husband Gene. They had very happy sixty-six years of marriage. Mary was a devoted mother and taught her children to swim, figure skate, and hike in the mountains. She loved to play golf and even won a tournament. Donations in Mary's memory can be given to Northern Colorado Hospital Foundation, 1801 16th Street, Greeley, Colorado. A Memorial Service to celebrate Mary's life was held on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary in Rio Rancho. Arrangements by Vista Verde Mortuary Rio Rancho, New Mexico (505) 892-9920
