TORREZ -- Jose L. Torrez, Age 89, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 13, 2004. Born in Torreon, New Mexico on June 8, 1915 and although diagnosed with polio as a child, and having to use crutches all his life he was an inspiration to all who knew him. In the village of Torreon he was known as the clock and watch repairman. He was the unofficial picture taker with one of the few Kodak Brownie Cameras in town and would often be called upon to be a substitute teacher in the elementary school. An orphan at a very early age he was taken in by his Uncle Juan A. Lucero and lived in Torreon until a few years ago when he came to Paloma Blanca Nursing Center. Joe as he was known at Paloma Blanca was an avid reader of magazines, books, and loved to watch Christian TV or the News. Joe comes from a family of musicians and was always proud when his relatives played at family functions, dances, and especially when they came to play at his Nursing Center. Joe was a devoted Catholic and a member of the San Antonio Catholic Church in Torreon. Primo Joe or Tio Jose as many relatives called him is survived by his Aunt Felicita Lucero, Prima Lita from California, Primo Joe Sedillo from Alamogordo, his Hijado Filadelfio, Deacon Juan Lucero, Fr. Jose Lucero, and many, many cousins and their families. Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Paloma Blanca Nursing Home who cared for Joe and made him happy these last few years of his life. Rosary will be presided by Deacon Juan Lucero at Salazar and Sons Mortuary 400 Third ST SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102 on Sunday, May 16 at 7:00pm. A Rosary will be recited at San Antonio Catholic Church in Torreon, New Mexico on Monday, May 17th at 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be held at San Antonio Catholic Church in Torreon on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 10:00am. Internment will be at La Divina Providencia which is on the road going east from the Torreon Community Center. Pallbearers will be Henry Sedillo, Jose Lucero, Jesus M. Lucero Jr., Ramon Lucero, Jesus Lucero and Jose Gabriel Lucero. Arrangements by: Salazar & Sons Mortuary 400 Third St. SW Alb., NM 87102 (505)247-4124
