DZIEKAN -- Joseph W. Dziekan, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1981, passed away, May 5, 2004. He was born on December 12, 1918, in Utica, New York and lived in Rochester, New York prior to moving to Albuquerque. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nellie; daughter, Karen Spingola; grandsons, Lawrence Spingola of Denver and Joseph Spingola. He is also survived by brother, Matthew and wife, Jean, of Oriskany Falls, New York; niece, Connie Critelli, and nephew, Stanley Pagoda of New York Mills, New York; and also many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Walter, and two sisters, Katherine and Helen. Joseph attended Bowling Green and Duke University and was a charter member of The National Society for Histotechnologists, The American Society of Clinical Pathology, The American Society of Medical Technologists, and a senior member of the New York State Histological Society. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Mass will be recited on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 10:00 a.m. Private interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico for their care and compassion over the past month and past years.
