DEARING -- Emily Jewel Dearing, age 92, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 9, 2004 at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque surrounded by her loving family. Emily was born March 20, 1912 in Texas to Elzie B. and Cordie Jaco. Her childhood years were spent growing up working with her parents and eleven brothers and sisters farming. She met the love of her life Floyd "Cheesey" Dearing and married in 1929. Emily and Cheesey were married for 45 happy years before he preceded her in death in 1974. Emily and Cheesey made their home in various places throughout the years while Cheesey farmed, worked on ranches, and road construction. Their first child, son Leo was born in Wellington, Texas, soon their daughter, Betty Jo followed as well as daughters, Wanda and Judy. Emily made her career as homemaker and was an expert seamstress and baker. She and Cheesey settled in Albuquerque in 1942, raising their children where they owned a livestock transport business, Floyd "Cheesey" Dearing Trucking for many years. She moved to Bosque Farms in 1976 and enjoyed her children and grandchildren very much. Two words best describe Emily, "family and love". Emily was devoted to her children and grandchildren and enjoyed making annual trips to Oklahoma City to visit her beloved family there. She started her own business in Bosque Farms, Emily's Stitch and Sew in 1976, later moving it to Los Lunas, and then retiring in 1980. She was a great supporter of New Mexico 4-H, sponsoring the Cheesey Dearing Memorial Hard Luck Cowboy and Hard Luck Cowgirl Award at the Bernalillo County 4-H Rodeo from 1975 - 1985. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren show their 4-H Livestock at surrounding fairs and Junior and High School rodeos throughout the State of New Mexico. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and gardening. She and her quilting friends created many beautiful quilts, which are wonderful treasures to her family members.
