SAVEDRA -- Ismael (Smiley, Savy) Savedra, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend went to be with the Lord on April 16th after a long battle with cancer. In his passing he was surrounded by family and friends. He was a native New Mexican born on April 10, 1929. He was preceded by the death of his son, John Marshall. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Griselda (Grace) and his children. Ted Savedra and Marie Martinez, Estella Savedra, Joseph and Rosalie Savedra, Paul and Anabel Baca, Gilbert Savedra and Henry and Lizzy Savedra. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a very large extended family. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Ismael was a drywall finisher by trade. He loved his animals and tending to his chili garden. He will be greatly missed. Visitations will be held on Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. A rosary will be recited on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. also at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Michael Savedra, Jeffrey Savedra, Matthew Aranda, Toby Savedra, Leo Savedra, David Nieto and Jonathan Nieto.
