SCRIVNER -- Helen Garner Nolan, age 90, a resident of Albuquerque from 1982-2001, died on February 29, 2004, in Taos, NM. The third of five children, she was born on September 16, 1913 in a log home in Gravelly, Arkansas to Sabert Randolph and Dora Oller Garner. The home sat near a creek on the Scott/Yell County border. When she was about 16 years of age, the Garners moved to Tulsa, OK, where she was graduated in 1931 from Turley High, now Central High. She lived in Tulsa until 1935, and married John Howard Nolan, May 14, 1935, in Lawton, OK. In 1936, John and Helen moved to Dallas, TX. After John was hired as a salesman for the H.J. Heinz Co., they moved to Brownwood, TX, where they lived until 1951. They lived in Waco, TX, 1951-1961; El Paso, TX, 1961-1965; Lubbock, TX, 1965-1982. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Nolan, on June 30, 1991, after 56 years of marriage. Helen Nolan was a remarkable woman of strength, beauty, and grace, always fashionable, and at age 83, attracted the attention of Gerald Lawrence Scrivner, who survives her. They were married on August 31, 1996, at Eastern Hills Baptist Church. In 2001, they moved to the Plaza de Retiro Homes in Taos, NM. She is survived by three children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. They are: daughters, Helen Joyce Lewis, and husband James R., Tijeras, NM; Ginger N. Boyer and husband Jeffrey L., Taos, NM; son, John Randolph Nolan and wife Jayne, Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Sabert Lewis, and wife Jennifer; and Colleen Lewis, all of Albuquerque, NM; and Rein Lewis, Flower Mound, TX; Meghann Easley, and husband Brad, Jackson, MS; Miles Boyer, Taos, NM/Siloam Springs, AR; and Molly, Ryan, and Jessica Nolan, Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren, Gillian, Rachel, Nathan, Zachary, Colton, Landon, Kelson, and Darlon Lewis. Always energetic and fun-loving, one of her greatest joys was being with her children and grandchildren for any occasion. Her other joy was gardening, especially of flowers. To walk through her garden gate in Towne Park and be welcomed by the flowers and roses blooming in her yard and in their pots was always a delight. Helen cared deeply for animals and admired sunsets. She was devoted to her church, in which she was active. She was a member of The Order of Eastern Star. In Lubbock, she was a volunteer with the Meals-on-Wheels for home-bound seniors. Our gratitude to the staff at Plaza de Retiro Medical Center for their extraordinary love and devotion to our mother. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris NE. Pastors Larry Miller of Eastern Hills, and James Nickell of First Baptist Church, Taos, will officiate. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. "Mother, your sunset years were as lovely as the sunsets which you admired. Because of you, we will always stop to smell the roses." French Mortuary 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE 823-9400
