SQUIRES -- Eva Squires, died Thursday, February 26, 2004. She was born Eva Nichols Grover, April 26, 1945 to the late Melvin Owen and Eva Grover in Calvert County Maryland. She graduated from Calvert County High School in 1963 and received a BS in Nursing from the University of Maryland in 1967. She was married to Robert Squires in Dallas, TX in 1973. Eva is survived by her children, Jeanette Hargreaves of Austin, Texas; Timothy Squires of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Catherine Squires of Gilbert, Arizona. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Dixon and brother Melvin Grover, both of Lusby, Maryland. Eva played many roles in many places. >From wading barefoot at Chesapeake Bay in search of a shark tooth bigger than her brother's to cracking open watermelons for a bite of the center to playing "Uno" and "Skip-Bo" with her children, she was a child at heart delighting in the small joys life has to offer. From hoeing the family crop in Maryland to working for 22 years as an OR nurse at St. Joseph's in Albuquerque, she showed the strength of a dozen men. From the echoes of her laughter and hugs to the loving notes she wrote, Eva radiated the caring of a staff-full of nurses. From Camp Pe-co-meth to the Bahamas, from Africa to Dallas and from Tunisia to a road trip across the country, she was a traveler and teacher. We will miss her blue crab cakes, jams, pies and the way she always insisted on a homemade meal for her family. Her final journey is the greatest of all. We love and will miss you, Mom, Sister, Friend. The memorial service will be held Sunday, February 29 at 3PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3715 Silver Ave. A nursing scholarship has been set up in her name.
