HEFFENGER -- Arthur Cowton Heffenger, our father left our loving embrace February 17, 2004 at 7:15 a.m. in Louisville, CO. His suffering was mercifully short, having taken ill just after Christmas and going home with his daughter, Felice Heffenger-Ginnane for hospice care in the second week of February. His family had the privilege of encircling him with love in the last moments of his life. Arthur C. Heffenger was in the American Field Service in World War II where he supported an Infantry Division as an ambulance driver in two campaigns, first in Italy and then in India. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, the European Campaign Medal and the African/Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and two Bronze Stars. Arthur was raised in Dover, MA and Bermuda. He married Felice Faith Brown in New York and moved to Corrales, NM in 1951 where her mother resided. They raised seven children together in Corrales. He left after she died in 1986 and moved to Tacoma, WA. He later relocated to Federal Heights, CO in 2001 to be closer to his children who lived in the area. He had varied interests in life which included his service as a member of the Corrales Volunteer Fire Department where he was always ready to lend a hand. He received training as an EMT and other expertise provided by the New Mexico State Fire Academy in Socorro, NM. He also learned a great love and respect of animals as a child as he and his parents raised English Fox Hounds (his beloved Martha) and taught his children to love and respect animals as well. Some of his most treasured memories were his camping trips in Maine with his father, Charles, and he would tell of the tame deer that would forage for food at their campsite. Our father was an incurable romantic who had a great love to share with many. His children were honored to provide the love he craved during the final weeks of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hildegarde Porter Heffenger and Charles Pickering Heffenger; his wife, Felice B. Heffenger; and great-granddaughter, Delphina Heffenger. He recently met his granddaughter, Nicole Renai Heffenger on the other side. He is survived by his daughter, Hildegarde Heffenger-Caudill and husband, JR, Steven Heffenger and wife, Diana, Charles Heffenger and wife, Isabel, Barbara Dudek and husband, Gregory, Felice Heffenger-Ginnane and husband, Gregory, Arthur M. Heffenger and wife, Delica, and Pepe Heffenger and wife, Theresa. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Pam Irvin, Lilly Irvin, James Irvin, Charles, Irvin, Jacob Heffenger, Caleb Heffenger, Ian Perlmutter, Jessica Dudek, Matthew Dudek, Eric Heffenger, Felice Seigneur, Jean Marie Heffenger, Isaiah Heffenger. His surviving great-grandchildren are Kerri Irvin, Maya Vitela, Simon Vitela, Amaris Irvin, Caitlynn Irvin, and Anna Felice Irvin. He is survived by a sister, Nancy Kennedy; and his nieces, Anne, Erica and Joan. There will be a Graveside Service on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 in the San Miguel Cemetery in Socorro, NM at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are being provided by Steadman-Hall Mortuary in Socorro, NM.
