METZNER -- Bernie Metzner, 78, longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on February 12, 2004, at the family home. He is preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Metzner, his sisters, Francis Hernandez and Elizabeth Black, his daughter, Barbara Garcia and granddaughter, Siobhan Garcia. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Metzner. They have been married for 52 years. Other survivors include his children, Carla Metzner, Barney and wife, Mary Ann Metzner, Frank and wife, Liz Metzner, Helen and husband, Hossein Kermani, Paula Metzner and Katrina Metzner. There are 14 grandchildren, Jamy, Eddie, Jarrod, Dominic, Tamara, Benjamin, Jeremy, Valerie, Zachary, Kian , Parisa, Michelle and Myrria. Great-grandchildren are Jasmine, Jade and Angelica. He is also survived by his brother, Frank (Fritz) and wife, Evelyn of Fowler, CO and John and Angie Metzner. He served in the Army during World War II and the beginning of the Korean War. He went on to a career with the Veterans Administration Hospital as an electrician where he retired after nearly 33 years. He was dedicated to raising his family and enjoyed camping, was a Boy Scout leader for many years. Most of all we know him as the best father, brother, uncle and grandfather. Rosary will be recited Monday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Tony and Lucy Tafoya reciting. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 9:00 a.m., at San Jose Catholic Church, 2401 Broadway Blvd. SE. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dennis Hernandez, Dusty Rhoades, Gary Hernandez, Eddie Varela, John Gabaldon, Jarrod Varela, James Hennigan and Kian Kermani.
