HONEYCUTT -- Jake Honeycutt, 81, a resident of Ojo Caliente passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2004 after a long illness. Jake Honeycutt was a Veteran of the United States Army, having participated in the battle of Normandy, the battle of the Bulge, was the recipient of the "Good Conduct Medal" and the "Victory Medal". When Mr. Honeycutt came to the Valley in 1945, he worked in the propane business for 45 years in the Espanola and Ojo Caliente areas. He was a member of the Espanola and Ojo Caliente Volunteer Fire Department and was a former member of the Rio Arriba County Sheriff's Posse. Most of his extra curricular activities was spent as a Sunday School Teacher and enjoying the outdoors, which he loved. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ollie Honeycutt of Ojo Caliente; children, Jake Honeycutt Jr. and wife, Jan of Del Norte, Colorado; Kenneth Honeycutt of Albuquerque; Larry Honeycutt and wife, Rhonda of Abiquiu; four grandchildren, Lisa Honeycutt, Jessica Foster, Valerie Tyler, Larry Honeycutt Jr.; brother, W.A. Honeycutt and wife, Minnie Louise of Moffitt, Colorado; sister, Ruby Crane of Austin, Texas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2004 at 12:00 p.m. the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Coronado Baptist Church of Espanola.
