ELLIOTT -- Eugene Lee Elliott, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away peacefully at his home on February 1, 2004. Gene was born on August 26, 1936 in Grinnell, Iowa. Gene was in the hotel and restaurant management business until his retirement. His love of woodworking led him to start Woodcrafts By Gene, making handmade Southwestern art. Gene was an avid Nascar fan and he enjoyed going and watching the races. Gene was a member of the Elks Lodge BPOE #865 in Raton, NM and served as past Exalted Ruler. He was also a member of the Rio Rancho American Legion Post 118. His wit and sense of humor set him apart and he will be missed by all of his family and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and LueVera Elliott of Raton, NM. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary; his daughter Deiedra "Dee" and husband Martin Quintana of Rio Rancho; brother, Charles and wife Peg; nephew, Mike, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; and his canine companion Charlie. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Sunrise Funeral Options in Rio Rancho. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Southwest Chapter, 1313 E. Osborn Rd., Suite 200, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
