THOM -- Hugh C. Thom, age 77, beloved husband and wonderful father died suddenly January 15, 2004. He is survived by his loving wife Betty of 55 years; son, Ric Thom and wife, Marsha; their children, Rhys and Travis of Albuquerque; daughter, Kathie Moerbe and husband, Jim of Colorado City, CO; son, Scott Thom and wife, Kathy; their children, Michael, Maria and Carissa of Albuquerque. He is also survived by brother, William Thom and wife, Helen of GA, brother, John Thom of FL; sister, Helen Fox of MO, sister, Betty Nanni and husband, Bernard of MO. He was preceded in death by his father, William F. Thom and mother, Helen Thom. Hugh, also known as "Long Tom," was an avid woodworker and loved golf and fishing. You could count on finding Hugh on the golf course every Wednesday with his usual foursome. He and Betty spent many winters in Mexico enjoying fishing and spending time in Kino with wonderful friends. He never did anything half way. You would see his dedication in his work. He impacted everyone he came to know. He worked at Bollingers in Pennsylvania and ACF in Albuquerque as a machinist. He retired from General Electric, where he worked as a methods planner in Albuquerque, Cincinnati and Turkey. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Scottish Rite, American Legion Post 49, and survived combat in WWII. Memorial services will be held at Strong-Thorne Mortuary on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. and laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 6600 Zuni SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
