STONECIPHER -- E. Thomas Stonecipher, 83, died on December 3 in San Antonio, TX. He and his family had lived in Albuquerque during much of the 1950's, and he retained a love for New Mexico even as his life and work took him elsewhere. A U.S. Navy officer from 1940 to 1965, he retired as a Captain after a varied career that included sea duty, service as a naval aviator, and graduation from the Naval War College. During his two tours of duty with the joint nuclear training program at Sandia Base he was first an instructor and then program director, after which he served as the director of the NATO School Europe, in Oberammergau, Germany. A second career in government and private sector work on youth training included stints in the Executive Office of the President and as deputy director of Job Corps. Keenly interested in genealogy, he served as NM state director of the Sons of the American Revolution. In retirement he was active with Habitat for Humanity. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Reba Stonecipher, of San Antonio, and by children Susan Kogel, Charles Stonecipher, Sarah Cormney, Rebecca Cassidy, and Henry Stonecipher, as well as by three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
