PORTER -- Jerry "For all those who are sad, for all those who are glad, Jerry Porter has died." Jerry Porter, longtime resident of Albuquerque, went to reside with his Lord Jesus Christ on December 1, 2003. He was born September 13, 1932 in El Paso, TX. Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his father, Carter Clayton Porter; mother, Lilly Katherine Patching Porter; uncle, William Asa Porter; and cousin, William Carlisle ("Wild Bill") Porter. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Orcutt Porter of Albuquerque; brothers, Alfred Ernest Porter and wife, Marianne Harriet Porter of Socorro, NM, Lawrence Benjamin (L.B.) Porter and wife, Marcia Orcutt Porter of Albuquerque; sons, William Howard Porter and wife, Marilyn Pack Porter of Aledo, TX, James Henry Porter of Princeton, IN; grandchildren, Jordan Leon Porter and Erica Nicole Porter both of Aledo, TX; sister-in-law, Judith Orcutt Russell of Ferndale, WA; stepson, Daniel Joseph Lennon and wife, Wendy Dianne Lennon; their children, Daniel Sean Lennon, Jake William Lennon and Nicholas Graham Lennon all of Worden, MT; and stepson, Robert Frederick Lennon of Los Angeles, CA; nephews, Alfred E. Porter Jr., and wife, Cheri and their children, of Las Cruces, NM, Randel Carter Porter and wife, Tracie and their children, of Alto, NM, Carter Burchell Porter and wife, Christie of Wylie, TX; nieces, Denise Harriet Porter and her daughter, Rebecca of Columbus, OH and Katherine Unity Porter and husband, James William Astholz of Phoenix, AZ; cousin, Winifred Porter Price Marshal of El Paso, TX and her children and the surviving children of deceased cousin, William C. Porter of Deming, NM. Jerry Porter attended public schools in El Paso, TX, Fabens, TX and was a 1951 graduate of Ysleta High School at Ysleta, TX where he was on the football team. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocation Agriculture from New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (NMSU) in 1955. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He taught vocational agriculture at the Clint High School at Clint, TX during the middle 1950's. He was employed as a Cotton Marketing Specialist with Paymaster Oil Mill Co. of el Paso, TX from 1957-63; Vice President and Trust Officer at the State National Bank of El Paso from 1963-74; Vice President and Trust Officer at the Sunwest Bank of Albuquerque from 1974-83; Vice President and Trust Officer at the Sunwest Bank at Roswell, NM 1983-88; Trust Officer at the Sunwest Bank of Albuquerque from 1988 until he retired in May of 1993. Jerry Porter was a man who dedicated his life to helping others. His moto was, "If you need anything, call me". He was a good samaritan in every sense of the meaning. There was never a man of more integrity, honesty and ethics. He was the helping hand of the needy and of strength for his friends. He loved his family, his friends and his fellow man. He was a devoted husband, brother, brother-in-law, father, uncle and grandfather. He will be greatly missed and has left a vacancy in the hearts of all he touched. He was taken from us by a brief illness with cancer. As were his wishes, there was no service and his body has been cremated. God will care for his soul. The family wishes to thank the Lovelace Hospice of Albuquerque for their kindness and considerate care. Arrangements were handled by French Mortuary in Albuquerque.
