OTIS -- Ina Gertrude Otis, born August 16, 1923 in Metcalfe, Ontario, Canada, to parents Frederick and Gertrude York, died Nov 15, 2003 in Albuquerque, New Mexico following a long battle with colon cancer. She graduated with honors from Metcalfe High School in Metcalfe, Ontario, Canada and was invited to attend nurses training at Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She graduated from nurses training as a registered nurse in 1944. She applied for and was accepted for a nursing position at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, Bermuda, B.W.I. in 1947 where she met her husband, Laurence Otis, in 1949. They married in 1951 and she followed her husband to military assignments in Europe and the Far East and changed residences seventeen times while raising five children. At many of the military bases, she was an active member of the NCO Wives Club. A long time member of the Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Ruth Circle Group, the Independent Order of Foresters, and TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), she also enjoyed being a Tupperware dealer for many years. She enjoyed art, made many oil paintings, and participated in art exhibitions at the New Mexico Fairground and Bear Canyon Senior Center. She is survived by her husband, Laurence (Sam) Otis; children, Laurence Otis III, Jeffrey Otis and wife, Ida, Sherri Keeling and husband, Mike, Bruce Otis and wife, Mary Jo, Bradley Otis and fianc‚, Tamara; grandchildren, Jennifer Lund and husband, Brian, Sean Keeling, Hannah Otis, Michelle Otis, and Danika Otis; step-grandchildren Gina Salazar-Sharma and husband, Ash, Tommy Salazar and wife, Mikhak, and Caitlin Bodine; and step-great-grandchild, Anthony Sharma. Memorial Service will be held at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 8600 Academy NE on Tuesday, Nov 18th at 5 P.M.
