HARTLEY -- Dylan James Hartley, age 16, born July 22, 1987, died on Friday morning, November 14, 2003, at home after an eighteen-month battle with brain cancer. He was a junior at Linworth Alternative School. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he spent most of his life in Worthington, Ohio. Dylan is survived by his parents, Jennifer King of Worthington, George Hartley of Athens, Ohio; step-mother, Valerie Mendoza of Athens; sister, Katy; grandparents, Barbara King of Santa Fe, New Mexico, R. Thomas King of Bay Village, Ohio, Helen Zadrozny of Brockton, Massachusetts, George Hartley Sr. of Lakeville, Massachusetts; step-grandmothers, Barbara King of Bay Village, Ohio and Louronne Hartley of Lakeville, Massachusetts; aunts and uncles, Gail Boudreault, Eric Hartley, Martha King, and Sarah King; cousins, Nicole Corrow and Bridget and Erica Boudreault; and his dog, Bertie. He also leaves behind many devoted and loving friends. Dylan had hoped to study chemistry in college and to become a crime scene investigator. His main passions were computer games, horror movies, and fantasy novels. He played trumpet and guitar and wrote his own fantasy novels. Suffering from a persistent sprained ankle and numbness of the leg, Dylan was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme in July 2002. He underwent surgery of the spinal cord in August 2002 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. In September of that year he began chemotherapy under the joint care of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas and Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dylan and his family were served well in his last days by Children's Hospice at Children's Hospital. A memorial service will be announced at http://groovdigit.com/dyl/memorial.html.
