MICKELSON -- Wilfred "Mike" Mickelson, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1973, died Saturday, October 18, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Arlene R. Mickelson of Albuquerque; sons, Alan Mickelson and his wife Jo Ann of Tijeras, NM, James G. Mickelson of Durango, CO; brother, John M. Mickelson of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Mickelson was preceded in death by his parents Wilfred O. and Ailie Mickelson, and his sister, Jean Johnson. He was born in Cloquet, MN. He served in the United States Air Force as a navigator on a B-29 during WWII and as a fighter pilot in Korea. Mike later became a Air Traffic Controller at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, IL, before moving to Albuquerque in 1973, where he worked at the Regional Air Traffic Control Center. Mike was an avid outdoorsman before arthritis slowed him down. He had a special place in his heart for the Boundary Waters Canoe area of northern Minnesota. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Thursday, October 23, 2003, 3:00 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 11515 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Pastor Milton Jensen officiating. Interment of cremated remains will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. A special thank you to Cross Roads Hospice and the Veterans Administration for their love and support.
