GALLEGOS -- Paul G. Gallegos, 93 was born March 31,1910 and died September 08,2003. He was born in La Luz, NM to Martin and Pilar Ga1legos. Paul is survived by his wife of 71 years, Luisa; daughter, Patsy Bevan-Carper; five grandchildren who will miss him dearly; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; 3 brothers, Sam, Martin and Ben; 1 sister Flora Gary and numerous nephews and nieces. Mr. Ga11egos was preceded in death by his son Paul Martin "Buddy" Gallegos, daughter-in-law Geri and granddaughter Christy. Paul was the Patriarch of his family, but also of his wife's extended family. With his family he moved to Albuquerque at the age of 9 months. Paul attended school at Menaul High School and UNM where he lettered in football, basketball, track and tennis. He was an elementary school teacher and high school coach. Paul was the first director of the new Detention Center and he was the Superintendent of the Girls Welfare Home where he initiated a curriculum of studies for the students. Prior to his 1976 retirement from Albuquerque Public Schools, he worked as Director of Transportation. A viewing will be held in the Chapel of Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th street, NW., on Friday, September 12, 2003 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
