Ghormley -- William K. Ghormley, 52, will be missed by family and friends. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 30, 1998, 6:00 p.m., at the Petroglyph National Monument, west of the Montano and Unser intersection, at the top of the escarpment. Appropriate footwear is suggested. A gathering of family and friends will follow at 5601 Cambria NW, home of Steve and Jan Kluge. Bill was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He graduated from Rice University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He received his Masters degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. As an Air Force Captain, he lived in various places and traveled extensively. He had been a resident of Albuquerque for 15 years. Bill was very active in the community. While a member of the Taylor Ranch Neighborhood Association, he served as President, secretary and newsletter editor. He was instrumental in establishing the Taylor Ranch Youth Committee, the Taylor Ranch Community Center, Mariposa Park, and the Taylor Ranch Library. Bill served on the Mayor's Citizens Advisory Committee for Unser Parkway. Westside education issues were important and he served on numerous Albuquerque Public School task forces and committees: LBJ Middle School Task Force, Marie Hughes Elementary Satellite Task Force (Chamiza Elementary School), the Marie Hughes PTA, and the West Region Citizen Advisory Committee. Bill taught computer generated animation in an after school program at LBJ. bill was a charter member and the newsletter editor of the Friends of the Albuquerque Petroglyphs. As a bird enthusiast and owner of exotic birds, he was an active member of the New Mexico Bird Club. He served as President, secretary and newsletter editor. He was a former member of the American"Roller" Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE). Bill's career recently included contract and proposal writing for the government.
