Christophersen -- Leonard Christophersen, 85, born March 11, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY, died December 21, 1999. A former resident of Dumont, NJ, he had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1985. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth; a daughter, Diana and husband, Kenneth Roger of Renton, WA; a son, Paul Christophersen and his wife, Pat of Albuquerque; his grandchildren, Andrew, Anna and David Christophersen; and brothers, George Christophersen and Roy Christophersen. He was preceded in death by his father, Georg; mother, Hulda; brother, Finn; and sister, Solveig (Sue) Morrissey. Mr. Christophersen was retired from United States Lines Steamship Company, New York, NY, where he was a Freight Traffic Representative. He also worked for Prudential Grace Lines for a number of years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a part of the Ski Troops and received a medical discharge. He was a 56-year member of the American Legion. His love was singing and he won many awards at amateur talent shows, plus he entertained at Veterans hospitals. A great conversationalist and storyteller, Mr. Christophersen had the ability to talk to people of all walks of life and put them at ease. He was impressed by one's character, rather than their station in life. He was someone who went the extra mile to help friends and strangers. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, and will be greatly missed. A celebration of Mr. Christophersen's life will be held Monday, 4:00 p.m., at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria Road NE, with Dr. John Cushman officiating. Interment of cremains will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
