Porter -- Myrle Chapin Hamm/Porter, born September 11, 1900, died Friday, February 26, 1999, at the age of 98. She is survived by a niece, Sally Kleeman of Illinois; two cousins, Ruth Shelton of Albuquerque and Millie Chapin of Illinois; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several step grandchildren. Myrle was preceded in death by her first husband, Leslie Hamm in 1972; and by her second husband, Wade Porter in 1994. She was a professional woman for many years, working for the State of Illinois. Myrle loved her church and enjoyed her many friends. She was especially proud of her family's heritage, tracing back to "Deacon" Samuel Chapin, who was born in England, migrated to America in 1635, and helped establish what is now known as Springfield, MA in 1636. Myrle loved sacred music and actively attended her church well into her 95th year. She was a member of Monte Vista Christian Church. Memorial services will be held Friday, 1:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE, with the Rev. Glenn W. Ricketts and the Rev. Fred W. Dorisse officiating.
