Couey -- Paul Couey Sr., 87, died on August 31, 1999 in Tulsa, Oklahoma of complications associated with Alzheimer's Disease. Paul was born in Trinidad, Colorado in 1912, and received his Bachelor's degree from San Diego State University, where he studied as a concert pianist. He married Thelma Smith in July, 1943, and they had two children, Paul Jr., born in 1944 and Jan, born in 1947. He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy during World War II and went on to serve with the Veteran's Administration as an adjudicator. He and his wife moved to Albuquerque in 1946, where they raised their two children, were charter members of Immanuel Presbyterian Church, and spent their retirement years. He was preceded in death by his wife and son. He is survived by his daughter, Jan of Tulsa, her two children, Greg, a senior at the University of Kansas, and Stephanie, a freshman at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He is also survived by his son's two children, Kelly Parker of Owasso, OK and Kristen Jowers of Alexandria, VA; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A private Memorial service is being held on September 4, at First Presbyterian Church, in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the Alzheimer's Association.
